Potentialities and Prospects - Fishery Sector

Beach areas in southern Cianjur has a great potential in fishery and wait to be developed further. There are a great variety of fishes possible for both consumption and recreation such as  tuna fish, squid, lobsters, etc.

The Government of Cianjur Regency is seen to make those beach areas beneficial and productive by taking advantage of the abundant marine resources to the best possible and providing more representative fish landing spots. Investors are welcomed and required to help develop these rich areas.

A long 75 km of seashore area owned by Cianjur regency, there are three central places as ideal place to be exploited:

  1. Sub district Agrobinta ( in Sinar Laut Village/end of  Cisokan river).

  2. Sindangbarang at Apra Beach/end of  Cisadea River

  3. Cidaun/Jayanti Beach.

From those three central places, only Jayanti Beach has been exploited. This area is very potential to be developed. Kind of fishes that we can find are : Lobster, White Prawn, Large Parwn,   Kakap, Layar, Bawal, Crab, Tortoise shell, etc. So far, the exploitation and catching method used by native fisherman is in traditional way, such as:

  • Using fishing rod and dragnet

  • The area of catching fishes none off the shore, only 3 - 4 miles away.

  • Limited equipment: motorboat (5 to 25 PK).

The marine locations are prospective and profitable if managed professionally. Marketing is not a problem because the area close relatively to another regencies such as Sukabumi, Bandung, Garut, and Jakarta. In other way. this sub sector of maritime  fisheries hoped can give real contribution as reliable in come for PAD.

Besides marine fisheries, various fishery industries are also being developed. Fast flowing water fishery, dragnet, fish pound and public waters. These various fishery industries are available at Cirata in the sub districts of Cikalongkulon and Mande. Gold fish breeding is also encouraged in the sub district of  Mande.
