Cianjuran has long
been known with its various martials arts.Pencak silat is a martial art that
is typically Cianjuran with its various styles or tendencies such Cikalong,
Cimande and Sabandar. These styles are still liked and learned by many
people including those coming from overseas.
The most credit should
go to R.Djajaperbata more popularly known as R.H.Ibrahim as for as pencak
silat Cikalong concerned. The Cikalong style is marked by its strong
sensitivity in reading any movement shown by the opponent while bodily
frictions happen and the opponent can be overcome with case. To strike
depends on the speed and exploding power R.H.Ibrahim died in 1906 and buried
in the family cemetery of Dalem Cikundul.
In the same era, there
was also another Pencak silat figure named Muhammad Kosim in the village of
Sabandar, the sub distrct of Karangtengah and he was better known as Mama
Sabandar. One of the ability to extend some invisible power or Liliwatan in
beating the opponents.
In its
development, this cianjuran martial art has also introduced completely new
styles such as those of Cikaret, Bojongherang and other.In the life of
Cianjuran Pencak silat, such figures as R.Abah M.Sirod, R.Didi Muhtadi ( Gan
Didi ), R.O.Soleh ( Gan Uweh ), Abah Aleh, R.Idrus, R.Muhibin and others.
Mean while maenpo introduced to us such figures as Rd.Ibrahim, H.Toha, Aa
Dai, Wa Acep Tarmidi, Abah Salim, Adung Rais and others. So far, Padepokan
or training centers of maenpo are often encountered in the whole sub
district, and performed every Tuesday night in the official residence of the
vice Regent and in the studio Radio Regional Cianjur every Friday night.
