From the geographical points of
view with its various natural resources, in addition to agriculture as the
main productive sector, the Regency of Cianjur is also keen to develop
tourism and marine industry.
The regency of Cianjur has a
great potential in natural resources scattered in three development zones.
Northern Cianjur area is planted with various vegetables, tea and accessory
plants and most of which is made up of paddy rice fields, and plantations.

The Regent of Cianjur takes the lead in responding to the movement of one million
tree cultivation introduced by RI President by doing the same thing simultaneously
in the sub district of Sukaresmi
Middle Cianjur areas are planted
with rice, tea, coconut and fruits.
Southern Cianjur area produces
second crop, tea, rubber, sugar palm, chocolate, coconut and fruits. This
area also has relatively still pristine tourist spots such as Jayanti beach,
Sereg beach and Apra beach. It is a lowland area consisting of small hills,
rice fields and various other fields.
Cianjur has also a great
potential in the mining sector of which mining materials groups A and B such
as gold are scattered in the sub districts of Campaka and Tanggeung. Whereas
mining materials group C consisting of mountainous rock, broken rock, lime
and the like scattered in the sub districts of Sukanagara, Takokak,
Pagelaran, Tanggeung, Kadupandak, Cibinong, Agrabinta, Sindangbarang and
Cidaun. Ferrous sand is especially found in the sub district of Cidaun and
it needs investment in order to develop further.
There are also other
potentialities such as fishery and agriculture which wait to be developed
through optimum agribusiness development system and investment. Agribusiness
include all the activities in the agriculture sector starting from providing
production infrastructure, production process, post harvest management,
processing and marketing.
Tourism sector has been crucial
to the increased wholly-regional revenue (PAD). This sector has a lot of
potential to contribute to the success of development in the region. The
Regency of Cianjur has long been known to have some attractive tourist spots
scattered in the sub-districts of Cipanas, Pacet and Sukaresmi with Puncak
Pass being the biggest tourist spot so far. Newly introduced tourist spots
are emerging in eastern part of North Cianjur area; one of them is a
man-made lake Cirata/Jangari which is good for water-loving tourists.
In recent years, the development
of tourist spots has been extended to
South Cianjur
areas which have coastlines and beaches. Jayanti beach. Sereg beach and Apra
beach are beautiful and still mostly natural. To make them more attractive
tourist destinations will require that prospective investors put their money
into the development.
In addition to developing those
into more attractive tourist spot, the government of Cianjur Regency is now
trying to develop and to maximize the available marine resources that can
help accelerate the economic recovery amidst the crisis.
In the coastal areas, the
breeding of the so-called Windu shrimps can be developed into profitable
venture, because the shrimps of this kind is one of the chief commodities
for both domestic and and overseas markets. The regional government has
allocated land for the purposes, about 1.000 hectares of land have been
provided.
The Regency of Cianjur also has a
lot of potential to develop handcraft industry as indicated by the fact that
there are more and more hand-crafted products produced in several
sub-districts in which these products can also be exported overseas in
addition to marketing them domestically.
Gentur lamp, bird cage, hand-crafted bamboo (product), Gentur lamp, ceramics
and its ceramics products and kecapi in miniature are among the widely known
handy craft products sold. The tourists who come to Cianjur may also
discover typically Cianjuran food products such as tauco, candied fruits,
dried eels, spinach-leave crackers and others.
